Advice for couples getting married at Bradbourne House
Make the most of the grounds
One of the biggest advantages of Bradbourne House is its beautiful landscaped gardens. You don’t need to spend hours away from your guests to get stunning portraits—around 15–20 minutes is usually plenty. We’ll take a relaxed walk through the grounds, stopping naturally along the way rather than spending lots of time posing.
Don’t miss golden hour
If you’re getting married between late spring and early autumn, I’d highly recommend slipping outside for 10 minutes around sunset. The warm evening light around the lawns and gardens creates a beautiful, romantic atmosphere and often produces some of my favourite images of the entire day.
Some of my favourite locations around the venue include:
- The grand front of the house – Perfect for timeless portraits with the elegant Georgian façade as a backdrop.
- The formal gardens – Beautiful all year round, offering colourful borders, manicured lawns and lovely symmetry.
- The lakeside – A peaceful spot that’s ideal for relaxed couple portraits and gorgeous reflections on calm days.
- The tree-lined driveway – Especially beautiful in autumn, creating depth and a classic countryside feel.
- The lawns at sunset – Open space and soft evening light combine for natural, romantic photographs.
Plan your confetti exit
The front of the house provides a fantastic setting for a confetti tunnel. Ask a member of your bridal party to hand out the confetti before the ceremony ends so everyone is ready as you walk out together.
Keep family photos organised
Preparing a short list of your family groups beforehand will make this part of the day quick and stress-free. I also recommend asking a close friend or family member who knows everyone to help gather people while I concentrate on photographing.
Rain isn’t a problem
Kent weather can be unpredictable, but Bradbourne House photographs beautifully whatever the forecast. The elegant interiors, large windows and covered entrances provide lovely alternatives if it’s wet, and the gardens often look even more vibrant after a shower.
Wear comfortable shoes
If you’d like to explore more of the gardens for portraits, it can be worth bringing a comfortable pair of flats or shoes for walking between locations. You can always change back into your wedding shoes afterwards.
Photographer’s tip
The beauty of Bradbourne House is that everything is within easy walking distance. Rather than scheduling one long portrait session, consider two shorter ones around 15 minutes after your drinks reception and another 10 minutes during golden hour. You’ll get a wonderful variety of photographs while still spending most of your day celebrating with family and friends.
