How to manage wedding day stress
How to Manage Wedding Day Stress (and enjoy your day to the full)
Weddings are magical, emotional, and unforgettable — but let’s be honest, they can also be stressful. Between timelines, vendors, emotions, and expectations, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. The good news? There are ways to stay grounded and enjoy your day, without getting caught up in the chaos.
As someone who’s been behind the scenes at dozens of weddings, here’s what I’ve seen work best for keeping the stress down and the joy flowing.
1. Plan Ahead — Then Let Go
A solid plan is your best defense against stress, but once the day arrives, it’s time to trust the process. Things may not go 100% according to plan — and that’s okay. Focus on the bigger picture: you’re getting married to your favorite person.
A few hiccups won’t ruin the day. In fact, they often become the most memorable (and funniest) moments.
2. Build Buffer Time Into Your Schedule
One of the biggest causes of wedding day stress? Feeling rushed.
Add cushion time between major parts of the day — 10 to 15 minutes between getting ready, travel, ceremony, photos, etc. This gives you breathing room for unexpected delays, and keeps everything feeling more relaxed and in control.
Pro tip: A calm schedule = calm energy.
3. Surround Yourself with Calming People
Your wedding day is not the time to manage other people’s energy. Be intentional about who you have around you while getting ready — choose people who bring support, calm, and positivity.
If you know someone tends to stress you out, it’s okay to give them a different role or ask someone else to buffer interactions.
4. Create a Calm Moment Just for You
Even five minutes to yourself can work wonders.
Take a walk, do a quick meditation, read a note from your partner, or just breathe deeply with your eyes closed. Build in quiet moments before the ceremony or during transitions in your day. They’ll help you reset and soak it all in.
5. Don’t Forget to Eat, Hydrate, and Rest
It sounds simple, but these are often overlooked on the wedding day.
Eat something nourishing in the morning, drink water regularly, and try to get a good night’s sleep before the big day. Bring easy snacks (granola bars, fruit, trail mix) for between events — especially if you have a long break before dinner.
No one wants to be hangry in a tux or wedding dress!
6. Focus on What Really Matters
Yes, the details are important — but the reason you’re having this day is the love you share. If you keep your focus on marrying your partner and celebrating that commitment, everything else becomes secondary.
Tiny imperfections won’t matter when you’re dancing with your best friend, surrounded by the people you love most.
Final Thought
Weddings are a beautiful blur. The more present you are, the more you’ll remember — and the more your photos will reflect the real, joyful emotions of the day.
So take a breath. Smile. Let go of what you can’t control. And trust the team you’ve built to have your back — I know I’ll be there, capturing every beautiful moment so you can relive it stress-free for years to come.
